MINI-WINCH Capstan Chainsaw Rope Winch STIHL 251C 96:1 Gear Ratio. Useful for hunting and moving animals, arborist rigging, light tree maneuvering, etc.

STIHL 251C Chainsaw has only 2 tanks of fuel through it. First tank was Stihl MotoMix and ran only under load lightly for a break in, second tank was Echo Red Armor in 91 octane. Throttle needs to be feathered a little to get the clutch to engage but this may just need a carb adjustment for altitude, I'm at 4k feet.

EASY PULL STARTING MECHANISM---DO NOT RIP ON THE CORD LIKE OTHER SAWS--- Just pull it like you are slowly stretching a rubber band. This chain has no depth gauges or cutter teeth.

The throttle trigger needs a remote throttle attached like a lawn mower lever. The little I used it we had one person on the throttle and another pulling rope. The Saw can be fitted with a bar/chain and be used as designed still.

Half throttle seems better for the health of the winch. A throttle limiter would be good on a throttle lever. This being a chainsaw driven chain requires bar oil as expected.

The mounting base plate is 1/8 steel, very solid. High friction/ high temp capstan rope should be used. Mini-Winch is a gear driven capstan rope winch with a magnesium (or cast aluminum) body. Gears packed in Mobil 28 grease.

The drive gear has a zero backlash spindle that is a one direction only motion. This makes needing the chain brake unnecessary.
